You Are What You Eat – I’ll Have a Supersize of Youth

787671331Like most women, I am always seeking a way to preserve my youth. I am 28 years old, and I still don’t have many wrinkles, but I know they are around the corner and I will do everything in my power to slow down the aging process. Well maybe not everything…

I have been using anti-aging eye cream since I was 18, lotioning up my face and body every day since I can remember, using spf on my face even though I must admit tanning is my down fall. Has it worked? Who knows, I guess it’s too early to tell, but that will not stop me from taking precaution in the hopes that I look youthful as long as possible. Continue reading

There is No Eco-Brand that exists.

smile_shirt_p1I had to share this. This is a link to another blogger’s post about Lika Volkova, the designer behind SANS clothing. She does not claim to be an eco-brand but probably is the closest thing to it and her concept is awesome. The SANS website sells digital patterns and instructions. So you pay for the digital pattern, and make your own clothes. I personally have never heard of this concept Continue reading

Eco-Chic…. Is it just a marketing scheme?

eco-chic2

Everyone is going ga-ga over eco-chic designers. In honor of Earth Day I want to pose this question: What does eco-chic mean? Is it just a marketing scheme or are these designers really making a difference and are their intentions in the right place?

On www.greenlivingtips.com I found an article that states “Eco chic is a term becoming increasingly prevelant – it simply means a combination of trendiness and environment. Eco chic is not just the perceived environmental impact of what you wear/have, but how it was made and the hip factor of the company producing it – with the latter being down to effective marketing. While it seems the latest essential fashion accessory is a social conscience, eco chic can be as much, if not more, about social status as it is about environment.” I can’t help but agree with this statement. Why does it have to be a social status thing? These pricey brands are making me feel like I can’t afford to be “eco-chic”. Continue reading

I <3 Earth

earth-day-and-kids1On Earth day I find myself reflecting on how green I’m being. Especially after watching today’s Oprah! I have a sudden urge to go out and buy more kitchen towels, and stop using paper towels every 5 minutes. I want to go buy cloth diapers, cause I don’t want my daughter’s poopy diapers in landfills for eternity (this one is probably not going to happen if I’m being realistic), but will encourage me to potty train her sooner. I want to stop using plastic bags, recycle more, and donate and reuse as much as possible.

Here are some things that we can all do to make our world more green, we’ve all heard them before, but we can all use a reminder. These are just a few suggestions to get you started on a more green path. Continue reading

Forever 21 Expands to Plus Size

Plus-size fashionistas will soon be able to sport Forever 21 threads! For those who are fuller figured probably know that Forever 21 only carries S, M & L and go up to a size 10. The new plus-size line, Faith 21, launches May 1st, and will carry XL, 1XL & 2XL sizes. If you’re in that size category I would mark the calendar! It will be available at http://www.forever21.com and in select stores. I personally think Faith 21 will be a huge hit since the average American woman is a size 14.

Facebook-Mania

With more then 200 MILLION active users, Facebook is sweeping the nation. My college aged cousins introduced me to Facebook about 2 1/2 years ago. I had a myspace and still do, but when I started on Facebook it was more appealing (for some reason or other) to keep in touch with people. Now that I have had a facebook for some time, there are some questions I have to ask:

The Sex Talk

I’m a huge fan of Oprah and watch her show regularly. Last week she did two shows on having the Sex Talk with your kids. I have a 17 months old daughter, and although she’s too young for this talk, my ears perk up and I take mental notes for the future. Dr. Laura Berman, a sex therapist that actually used to be a regular on Eddie & JoBo morning show on B96 (Chicago’s local radio station), was now on Oprah talking about how to have the conversation with your son or daughter. Continue reading
