SUPER-SIZE SHOULDERS

Shoulder Padsshoulder pads

Call it a comeback, shoulder pads are back! If you like it or not the shoulder pad attack is coming in full force this year. They are being stuck everywhere from evening dresses to power suits. The shoulder pads made famous in the 80s have been spotted everywhere in Fashion week. The look isn’t as scary as one might think and can be a good style solution for the pear-shaped figure if paired with a dark, slim lower half.

Fits Me Like a Glove

There are many styles of dresses that I love. And while I may love them, doesn’t always mean that style is for me, as mentioned in my previous post.

I’m a girl that has curves! And I like clothes that shows them off while still being flattering to my body. I get my inspirations from celebrities like Jennifer Lopez, Kim Kardashian and Beyoncé!

These girls are bootiliscious and they made having curves HOT HOT HOT, and I love them for it! And not only do I admire their embracement of their full figured frames, I love the choices they make to show it off (Kim Kardashian & Jennifer Lopez more so then Beyoncé… she sometimes makes some dreadful choices!).

I also get inspired by 50s Pin-Up fashion. But this deserves a post all of it’s own. I was going to write about it here, but I have too much to say, so I will leave that to another time.

With that said, I love curve hugging, classic looks. When I shop for a dress, I want to be able to look back at the pictures of me wearing it 10 years from now and still say that dress was HOT. So I tend to not wear dresses that are per say “trendy”… but timeless. Well I shouldn’t say never, but at least for those big life occasions, from my own wedding dress to a dress I wore to my daughter’s baptism, I go for Continue reading

One is Better Then Two for Spring 2009

If you are in the market for a dress for a wedding or a special occasion, consider getting your self a one-shoulder dress and show off those sexy shoulders and back! The one-shoulder dress trend has been on the rise. The asymmetric neckline is striking and bold and is coming back. Yes I said coming back as in it’s been here before… the trend is not a new one to fashion, it has been around for thousands of years, back when Greek goddesses were draped in togas. Now a days we have a lot more to choose from then just the toga look.

Here are some of my favorite celebrity one-shoulder looks for inspiration:

BOOTIE CALL!

NO, NO, NO, not that kind of bootie call, put your cell phone away! Finally our obsession with stylish boots for the winter season can be transitioned into the spring and fall months. With the unveiling of the bootie in spring of 2008, this year’s fashion week reveals the cutout bootie is here to stay for yet another year. So if you missed out last year get your pair for your spring wardrobe today.

Cutout booties are high-coverage booties but with the freedom of a sandal. Whether revealing the heel, open toe, cutout sides it’s a multi-seasonal bootie to instantly sexify your outfit!

Here are my favorites that I’d pair with skinny jeans, shorts or a cute dress. Even though I have Don Périon taste I can really only afford a case of Coronas. 🙂 bootie_call

Color Me Spring

As the spring season approaches and we slowly come out of our winter hibernation, that’s especially horrendous here in the Midwest, it will be time to add a splash of color to our wardrobe for a pick me up. Get us in the spring-like mood if you will. (Even though it probably won’t feel like spring here in Chicago until about May!)

I’m adding a splash of color to my wardrobe with a brand new handbag for spring. Not only is it time for me to get a new handbag, but it seems like all I have are solid black, brown or white bags. Bright colors and metallics are all the rage for handbags this upcoming spring season.

When I was at Macy’s a few weeks ago, I fell in love with a $95 colorful tote by Kathy Van Zeeland. It’s synthetic leather but is still so luscious! I stood there and admired it, the detail, the colorful print on the silky fabric and the softly pleated, curvaceous shape. I pictured myself wearing it with a bright yellow cardigan, and the brand new purple H&M skinny jeans I just got. Then I quickly snapped back into reality and told myself I’m not spending a hundred bucks on a bag (not in these economically challenging times at least!)

Today I went to Marshalls, one of my favorite places to shop and find good deals. “Where you can get the season’s top labels without paying top dollar” (that’s what their website says) and it’s totally true! And guess what!!! That very same Kathy Van Zeeland Belted Shopper was hanging there calling my name! “I’m over here Karina…” it called out softly to me. As my eyes met it’s voluptuous bod, I slowly reached out to look at the price tag. It was $39.99… the rest is history and I now have my tote for spring.
